Is Botox Right for Me?
Botox is used to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It is an injectable treatment that helps stop the communication between the nerve and muscle. The most common applications are in the forehead, outer eye area and between the brows.
BOTOX
Facial aging can begin in the early 30’s, gradually becoming more visible by the time you reach 40. Although there are surgical techniques to help rejuvenate the face, those who are unsure of undergoing an invasive procedure often opt for facial injectables such as Botox ®. Made of Botulinum Toxin A, this injectable is intended to help stop the communication between the nerve and muscle. Doing so prevents movement and therefore diminishes the appearance of lines and creases in the treated area.
Dr. Adan personally performs Botox injections on the forehead, glabellar area (between the brows), outer eye area (“crow’s feet”), and in the neck area to reduce the appearance of platysmal muscle bands. Some patients with facial asymmetry may find Botox injections an ideal solution to their problem. In addition, Dr. Adan injects smaller doses of Botox into the lip area where “smoker’s lines” often appear.
During the initial consultation, the face is examined for areas of aging, the goals are discussed, and the procedure is planned. Because each patient has a unique facial structure and desired results, every Botox treatment is customized to fit his/her needs.
Botox injections are performed in the office without the need for anesthesia. However, if you choose, a numbing cream may be applied to help relieve any pain associated with the treatment. Dr. Livingston will then inject several units of Botox into the target area. Based on the number of treatment areas, the procedure can take up to 20 minutes to complete.
In addition to Botox, Dr. Adan may also use injectable fillers to help plump up creases in other areas of the face. A trained and qualified aesthetician may also perform facial peels and other skin resurfacing treatments to help remove damaged skin.Botox patients may anticipate an overall facial rejuvenation when combining these types of injections.
Post-treatment, patients may immediately return to their regular daily activities. There is no downtime or recovery period.
BOTOX RECOVERY
The most common side effects of Botox injections include headache, mild injection site pain, and bruising.
Botox injectables can last up to four months; however, if you are considering more permanent solutions to facial wrinkling, you may be interested in learning about some of our surgical facial procedures, such as facelift surgery (“rhytidectomy”)
