Breast reduction is a common surgery for those women looking to reduce the
size of their breasts. While some women want to enhance the size of their breasts, others, with excessively heavy breast weight may experience everything from embarrassment to irritating indentations from bra straps to severe back pain, skeletal deformities and breathing problems.
Breast reduction surgery results in smaller, lighter, more even breasts that are better-shaped, in proportion to the rest of the body, and easier for the body to support.
Having Breast Reduction Surgery
The incisions and scarring greatly depends on the amount of tissue that needs to be removed.
Vertical or Short Scar Reduction
A vertical – short scar reduction is used for women whose breasts are only moderately oversized and don’t need a lot of tissue removed. Your surgeon makes the incision around the areola and straight down. There are no horizontal incisions made during this type of reduction which reduces the scar length by as much as 50%. The results are often described as a ’rounder’ and ‘more natural’ outcome.
Traditional Breast Reduction
This is for those women who require removal of alot of breast tissue. An anchor shaped incision is made around the areola, straight down and then horizontally along the breast crease.
Other Procedures Often Done in Combination with Breast Reduction
During breast reduction surgery it is often necessary for Dr. Adan to perform liposuction in conjunction with your breast reduction to remove excess fat from the armpit areas.
